When high quality individual parts are laboriously packed, differing packaging and logistics costs can be incurred depending on the suppliers. In addition, packaging into disposable packaging and bubble wrap takes a lot of time for the supplier and unpacking produces waste for the recipient. Prices for supplied parts are so hard to compare because each supplier calculates their own packaging and logistics costs. Kesstech, a manufacturer of high quality exhaust systems – for Harley-Davidson and BMW motorbikes, for example – now uses a special, modular reusable system in freight traffic with its suppliers. The unique part is that sprintBOX, as a service provider, not only provides all of the logistics but also organises the entire billing process for logistics and transport costs. This saves time, and the product-specific logistics costs are now ultimately comparable for each individual part.
Here’s how it works: sprintBOX makes reusable containers, which are part of a cycle, available on a hire basis. First, the supplier orders specific containers centrally, as required, through the “sprintBOX navigator”, an online container management system. The company then transports the containers to the supplier, who fills them with the goods. This is quickly accomplished since a modular separation system, which is adapted for high quality individual parts, is used in the containers. The goods are now securely and individually packaged. The containers are then loaded onto pallets and transported to Kesstech by Schäflein Spedition. Kesstech easily removes the product from the containers without any need for unpacking and with no packaging waste and installs them in the exhaust systems. Kesstech collects the empty containers on a pallet. As soon as the pallet is full, this is registered and it is collected by sprintBOX. SprintBOX cleans the containers as required, checks them, repairs them if necessary and then puts them back into the Kesstech cycle. Kesstech no longer receives an invoice for the logistics costs from each supplier as before; instead it is only billed for the individual parts supplied. All of the logistics costs are thus invoiced by sprintBOX – with a “all-in price” per unit.
All booking run through the “sprintBOX navigator” software, meaning that all participants in the cycle, i.e. the suppliers and Kesstech, can see at any time where, what and how many containers are in the cycle. In addition, the desired containers are also ordered here as required. Invoicing occurs for one cycle at a time and includes containers, the separating system, personnel and transport costs. The packaging and logistics costs thus accrue directly with Kesstech, which pays a set amount per part supplied while the suppliers do not invoice it for any packaging and logistics costs. The basis is an “all-in price” per transport goods unit which proportionally includes all logistics costs incurred such as packaging, transport, container hire and management. The logistics costs can thus be clearly allocated to the individual parts supplied and are always the same. The benefits: the logistics and transport costs can be calculated directly for the particular product and the production costs for supplied parts can be compared much more easily.
